It was Tony’s fault, really. It’ll be fun. He said. Two seconds after Colby and Bryan stepped into the portal, they were falling, crashing through several…

“But I’d be more worried about the grizzly bear coming your way!” Emma heard someone shout. “Grizzly bear?” she said spinning in circles. Coming I a stop she saw a grizzly about 20 feet away and in looked like it was ready for a kill.

“We’ve got to help her!” Colby hissed, knowing rash movements could upset the bear, who was stalking slowly towards the little girl.

“We don’t have guns!”

Colby pulled her Tazer from her belt. “I don’t need one. Just be ready to grab the kid. Then make a run for it.” Colby said, already dashing from their hiding place.

Emma heard a little of the strange people’s conversation. She didn’t know what a gun was. One thing she knew for sure was that she was not staying there. Slowly making her way to the tree behind her. She trips over a fallen branch, getting her to make contact with the ground.

In a flash, Bryan was there, scooping the terrified little girl up as Colby jumped on the now charging grizzly. Keeping a firm grip on it, she drove her Tazer as hard as she could into it, set to its highest setting.

“Get her back to the tent!” Colby yelled.

As soon as Emma was on the ground, she was scooped up into, the stranger arms. She looked up to see that it was a guy. She didn’t care at the moment though. She was terrified. The guy her towards their little camping area, leaving the other person behind.

Bryan wasn’t nearly as fast as a runner as his best friend, but boy, when his life and an innocent was at stake, there was no question as to how far or how fast hewouldrun to keep others safe.

He had faithfully believed that his blond-haired, blue-eyed partner would always come through for them. He was never let down. Not once.

As they neared the campsite, Bryan put the girl down by the firepit. A few minutes later, Colby ran into the campsite, a little winded, but okay. Aside from the bloody scratch that ran from her right temple to her lower stomach.

She sat down next to the girl they had rescued. “It’s a little too dark for you to go back home safely. My name’s Colby.” She pointed to her counterpart with messy brown hair and brown eyes. “And that’s Bryan. What’s your name?”

Emma sat there still trying to comprehend the situation. She felt a presence beside which snapped her into reality. As the lady said the names of herself and her partner, she asked for Emma’s name.

“M-my name is Emma.” Emma said bringing her knees into her chest looking in the direction Colby, but not making eye contact.

“Y-your hurt.” Emma said pointing to the woman’s right temple.

“What-this?” Colby pointed to her wound, trying to act unconcerned. “Its nothing. We may only be fourteen, but we’ve been through worse.”

Looking down thinking of ways to do something. “I have to do something.” Emma mumbled. She stood up and looked around. “But I just don’t know what.” Emma sat back down. Debating on what to do.

For dinner, Colby caught a salmon from the river and cooked it over a fire. Bryan had a loaf in the reserves. After the fish was finished Colby mashed it a bit, throwing small bits of it into the dirt.

When she was finished with that, Bryan scooped the pulpy fish up, sandwiching it between two slices of bread.

“Its not much,” Bryan said, offering Emma some on a plate. “But its dinner.”

Emma looked at the food but shook her head. “No you guys need it more.” Then Emma got an idea. She got up and went over to a group of clustered trees. “Maybe, just maybe.” se mumbled to herself, tapping her chin. Looking the tree up and down, she grabbed a few branches. “From what the elders in the village said, we are suppose to have rain later tonight.”

Colby set the plate next to the fire to keep it warm. She watched Emma disappear into the woods. “If you just need help, just say the word!”

“…Stay safe.”

Colby told  ordered Bryan to go to bed after it got dark, but she stayed up, making sure at least a few embers were lit in the firepit.

Emma came back to only find Colby awake by the fire. She was pretty sure that Bryan was sleeping.

Emma was too tired to even make it to the open site. She fell asleep by a few bushes by the site.

Seeing the little girl curled on the ground,Colby scooped Emma up and tucked her into Colby’s sleeping bag in the tent.

Squatting in a corner, Colby felt too jumpy to sleep. Still, she felt her eyes droop as she spoke a story.

“Once there came a day like no other, and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Avengers were born…”

Emma woke up the next day in a tent. She didn’t know if someone else was in there, but she kept quiet.

Quietly getting out of a sleeping bag, that she doesn’t remember getting in, and shuffled over to the tent’s door.
